Volunteers and Coaches

We’re so glad you’re joining our amazing force of parents, family and community members working with students here at NUSD. The impact of your investment is immeasurable and will have positive effects on students long past their time in the classroom.

Please note, NUSD vigorously screens all volunteers to maintain the safety and well being of all of our students and staff. Before you may begin volunteering in the classroom, you will need to complete the following steps…

Substitute Information

Certificated and Classified substitutes are important partners in the education of our students. Novato Unified School District is currently recruiting substitutes to be placed on our District’s on-call, as needed list for substitute certificated teachers, cafeteria assistant, classified paraprofessionals for Special Education, custodians and school office support.

  • You will first need to register with the Marin County Office of Education. Click here for the Countywide Substitute Registration Overview.
  • Once Cleared with MCOE – fill out a NUSD Sub Application on EdJoin
  • Substitute paperwork will be emailed by Jen Albini at NUSD when application is complete on EdJoin. When forms are complete, Jen Albini at [email protected] or 415-493-4246 to schedule an appointment to evaluate paperwork. You will need to bring the following items to your appointment:
    • Driver’s License OR Passport
    • Copy of your Social Security Card – if you have it available
    • Voided Check for Direct Deposit

Absence Management Information:

We use Frontline Absence Management. Check out the Quick Start Guide for more information.

Per Board Policy 4121: Temporary/Substitute Personnel:

  • Substitute employees are not eligible for employee health and welfare benefits
  • Certificated individuals who substitute in a classified paraeducator position will be paid at the Certificated Daily Substitute Rate, regardless of consecutive days worked.

Certificated Substitute Pay Schedule:
